When we were almost sixteen, twenty was unthinkable -- do we all get there someday? -- I asked this of a friend as we walked to school, kicking some unnamed fruit onto the road and watching them get crushed by passing vehicles (that wouldn't even notice the fruit's fate!) She did not know, but she knew where she was going. There was a university, there was a future and plans and now all she needed was to graduate and go peacefully into the blueprint of her well-planned life. Alllrrriiiight, but what about me? No plans, no foreseeable future, no idea what I would do in the next hour or if Peter Pan might truly exist -- which admittedly I really did believe for a good long time! -- and if he may come to get me, apologising for the long wait. There are too few stars in our sky to count the second one to the right!
No matter, I got here anyway. So now I'm twenty! Two decades, that's a long time, but what am I in the greater scheme of things!
Me and Nick, there are seven years between us. Who is older, can you tell?
I often forget what I look like, and then catch myself face to face with my reflection when the MRT passes through a tunnel and then think oh my gosh, you don't look the same as I remember!
So this is what I looked like on my twentieth birthday. We had tea by the harbour. The frog was thrilled! After all, he once was lost in a cafe by a harbour in some other city.
Mom's iPhone picture of me and Kodok
Anyway, my frog, Ollie Kodok Frogobo, turned the ripe old green age of three yesterday, and we did have such a great time :)
Together since 2008!
I've made the same three wishes, and an extra one for someone other than myself. (It is good to be generous with wishes, then perhaps someone else would use their wish for you, and these wishes-for-others are more potent, c'mon, everyone knows that!)
Supper -- Ben's treat! Oh, the joys of having a big bro!
Ben making his speech :) Yup, you know who to call if you need an entertainer!
There you go, goodbye teenagerhood! I'm twenty years + 24 hours, I've got enough education to last me awhile, enough money to see me through the day, enough time to waste, a job, good fun, journeys to embark on, one good frog, some friends, no idea how I found my way to today, and I think I'm alright. Look out, here comes tomorrow!
P.S. Momma dedicated a letter to me on her blog HERE ~~~ whee!
